THE OFFICIAL SYMBOL OF THE VIETNAMESE-AMERICAN
IN THE CITY OF OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA.
The City of Oklahoma
WHEREAS, the city of Oklahoma City
has the largest Vietnamese American population in the State of Oklahoma;
WHEREAS, many of these Vietnamese
Americans were refugees who left Vietnam as a result of the change of governments;
WHEREAS, the Vietnamese American
Community in Oklahoma City has made substantial contributions to
our culture, business and commerce; and
WHEREAS, the majority of Vietnamese
Americans embrace the flag of their former country as the symbol of their
WHEREAS, the flag of the former
Republic of Vietnam symbolizes the resilience freedom and democracy of
and for Vietnamese Community; and
WHEREAS, it is the expressed will
and desire of the Vietnamese American Community in Oklahoma City that the
flag of the former Republic of Vietnam, heretofore known as the Heritage
Freedom Flag of Vietnamese Americans, be recognized as the official symbol
of the Vietnamese American Community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, KIRK HUMPHREYS,
Mayor of the city of Oklahoma City, do hereby recognize that the Heritage
Freedom Flag is hereby proclaimed as the official symbol of the Vietnamese
American Community residing in Oklahoma City.
